paul posted an update: OK as a first run this has been excellent. Thanks to all and perhaps we have opened up a few questions for us all as we proceed through the year. Next week I will post two articles to keep us busier. You are welcome to continue your debate but the official part is now completed. Unfortunately I have to go to the Belfast campus to attend a meeting full of men in suits who think we are all very important! Thanks again.

paul posted an update: To continue with the BBC example my experience over 20 years of working with them is that virtually all the producers are female ands unseen/unsung and virtually all the presenters, the public face, are men!! The reason usually given for this is that both men and women trust a male voice more. Really??

Your class is out of the norm because there are a good many females in it - I am glad to stay. This is very rare in the technical areas especially computer-based learning. Why is it so rare?

But, I was once told by a leading BBC manager to never say no to anything being offered as a job even if you think you can't do it. His logic was you will learn to do it and there will always be somebody to help you if you fall over. I have lived by this in the workplace and generally it has worked. Thoughts?
